How the Top 40 Works
The AppLand Top 40 is powered by a rolling 7-day play window with built-in integrity protection. Every rule below exists to ensure the chart reflects genuine listener interest — not manipulation.
Self-Streams Excluded
Playing your own tracks does not count toward the chart. Every stream in the Top 40 comes from a genuine listener — not the artist themselves.
Minimum Listen Duration
A stream only counts if the listener played the track for at least 10 seconds. Accidental taps or instant skips are automatically filtered out.
Rapid Replay Filter
If the same listener replays a track within 30 seconds of their previous play, the repeat is ignored. This eliminates session noise and loop manipulation.
Repeat Play Decay
Multiple plays from the same listener within the 7-day window are weighted progressively less. The 1st play counts fully, the 2nd at 70%, the 3rd at 40%, and any further plays at just 10%. This ensures genuine spread matters more than one person looping a track.

Time Decay Weighting
Recent plays count more than older ones. A play from today carries full weight, while a play from 6 days ago carries roughly a third of that. This keeps the chart fresh and momentum-driven.

Unique Listener Weighting
Reaching a wide audience is rewarded more than repeat plays from a small group. Each unique listener within the 7-day window contributes 3× more to a track's chart score than weighted stream volume alone. A track with 10 different listeners will always outrank a track with 10 plays from one person.
The Bottom Line
The Top 40 chart score is calculated as: (Unique Listeners × 3) + (Weighted Streams × 1). Only streams that pass all integrity rules above are included. The chart refreshes daily based on the most recent 7 days of genuine listening data.
